Frick's is having their Anniversary Sale, and it's actually pretty good!  I think most of my grocery budget this week will be spent at Frick's stocking up my freezer for winter.  Not many coupons to mention, but that's okay.  Remember if there is a printable coupon you'd like to use on an item, you have to take the ad to Walmart for a price match because Frick's no longer honors printables.  Their full ad is here.

They are also selling $.50 hot dog and soda meals on Thursday and Friday from 10AM-6PM, and an Oreo cake on Friday after 11AM.

BC frozen veggies $.69
BC shredded cheese $1.69

Schnucks had some unexpected sales this week.  The Gorton's fish sale includes popcorn shrimp, yum!  Fleischmann's yeast is on sale and with $.40 Q doubled, it's only $.69 for a three-packet strip.

Don't forget about Loaves and Fishes Market across from Schnucks.  It's an Amish/Gluten-free grocery store with a very good selection.  I buy my whole wheat flour there because it is almost always cheaper than at other stores.  I got a 5-lb. bag today for $3.  I also bought 16 oz. wagon wheel pasta for my daughter for $1.87, and 1/2 lb. natural cocoa powder for $2.  I didn't need cornstarch, but they had 1/2 lb. containers on sale for $.81.  It's a good place to buy gifts too, because they have soup mixes, specialty teas and coffee, and all kinds of homemade preserves.  And the prices are very reasonable.  So check it out if you haven't already!

25 cent napkins at Finks!

I went to Fink's yesterday and found some great craft items for Christmas gifts in their dollar section AND and birthday candle for my little girl.  :)

Also, found that they have Bounty 50ct. napkins on sale 2/$1 near the bananas.  Combine with $0.25 coupon from 10/2 P&G and you get even cheaper napkins!  Schnucks usually carries these same napkins for $1 each, so even with the double coupons, you are saving if you can make it out to Fink's!

They have pumpkins and apples on sale also (cheapest in Union), but they are cheaper at Aldi if you make it out to Washington by tomorrow.

Honey Rosemary Chicken

Thanks, http://www.recipe.com/, for the base of this recipe!  I tweaked it a little based on what I had in my house.  This is what I did:

4 chicken thighs
3 russet potatoes, quartered
1 onion, sliced thickly
2 celery stalks, cut into one inch pieces
4 cloves of garlic, minced

Sauce:
1/4 c. honey
2 Tbsp. Sprite
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. dried rosemary (rub it in your palms before adding to release oils)
1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. freshly ground pepper

Brown chicken thighs in olive oil, about 4 minutes on each side on medium-high heat.  While they are cooking, chop veggies.  Spray Crockpot with oil and then throw in the veggies and spread them out on the bottom.   Make the sauce by combining the ingredients.  Layer the chicken on top of the veggies and pour the sauce on top.  Cook for 6-8 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high.

Serves: 4
Total cost: around $3

I'm going to serve it with broccoli.  I've never made this before, but it sounded yummy.  I'll let you know how it turns out!

***Since I apparently can't post comments on my own blog (need to figure out how to do this), I will just update.  This was delicious!  I will add more salt next time though and add more chicken because we devoured this meal! :)

30 min dinner: Chuckwagon Casserole

I found this one-skillet recipe a couple of years ago on a website, but I tweaked it to meet my limited budget and still fill up my family.

1/2 lb. ground beef or turkey
1/2 onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped (optional)
1 carrot, chopped (optional - I like to "hide" veggies ^.^)
1 c. any BBQ sauce
2 c. beef broth
2 c. pasta (wagon wheels are cute, but I usually use plain-Jane macaroni)
1 c. shredded cheddar cheese

Brown ground beef and veggies together on medium heat (at least 10 mins).  Drain.  Add BBQ sauce, beef broth, and pasta.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 mins or until pasta is tender.  Remove lid and allow it to set for 5 mins. or until sauce thickens.  Serve and top with shredded cheddar cheese.

Serves 4.  Total price: around $4

Proctor and Gamble Rebates and Coupons

Wow!  There are some crazy good P&G deals this month.  Here's what I know about them.  Feel free to comment about other ideas you might have.

Schnucks: Buy $35 of any P&G products (before coupons) and look for MIR form in aisles or ask at customer service for $10 prepaid Visa card and CindaB card holder by mail.

Kmart: Buy $35 of any P&G products (before coupons) and look for MIR form in aisles or ask at customer service to receive a $10 prepaid Visa card by mail.  It runs from 10/2 - 10/22 for ShopYourWayRewards members.  Sign up is free on http://www.kmart.com/.  Their ad in the 10/2 SmartSource says that this is after discounts.  Not sure if this means coupons.  You might want to ask at customer service if you are interested and are going into the city.  I'm waiting on this deal to see if they will run their double coupons up $.99 during the promotion period.

Any store: Buy $50 of "women's" products (see 10/2 P&G ad) and go to http://www.pgpinkrebate.com/ for MIR form to get a $10 prepaid Visa card.  This rebate does NOT need to be in one shopping trip and receipts can be dated starting 9/1.  So look through your receipts!  Also, as far as I can tell, you can get this rebate in addition to the Schnucks and Kmart rebates above.  Score!  And, they will donate $10 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The savvy couponer will pair these deals with the amazing coupons in the 10/2 BrandSaver.

Deal ideas: Walmart, Target, CVS, etc. have CoverGirl eyeshadow, blush, and sometimes mascara for around $4.  Use the $8 off 2 CoverGirl face products coupon in 10/2 P&G to score free or very cheap face products and work toward the $50 Pink Rebate.

Buy one 6-8ct. Venus razors and get various Olay products (body wash, lotion, etc. - see coupon) for free up to $7.99.  The 6-ct. razors are around $16 and if you get the most expensive Olay item up to $7.99, you could have around $24 for your Pink Rebate.

Remember Washington Schucks will double coupons up to $.50.  Walmart usually has trial size Tide for $.97.  It will be a little more expensive at Schnucks, but I'm hoping still around $1.  Use the $.50 coupon for any one Tide in 10/2 P&G for free or nearly free detergent!  However, I haven't checked to see if Schnucks has trial size Tide...

Pampers wipes 2/$5 - $.50Q (doubled) = $1.50 each for 72 ct. tub

I could go on and on.  Take advantage of these rebates - they are like free money and will arrive just in time for Christmas shopping!

Country Mart - Prices good until 10/4

I haven't had time to do Country Mart this week, but there are some good deals.  Just a reminder, they will double coupons up $.49 every Tuesday (tomorrow).

24 packs of Pepsi - $6.88 - $2/2Q (10/2 Moments) = $11.76 or $5.88 each
Van Camp's Pork and Beans 2/$.98 = $.49 each
Best Choice ice cream quarts $1.98
Best Choice vegetable oil $2.69 for 48 oz.
Spaghetti-Os $.89 - $.40/3 (9/11 SS) doubled = $1.87 or $.62 each
Fiber One or Nature Valley granola bars $2.29 - $.75/2Q (10/2 GM) = $3.83 or $1.92 each
Nestle chocolate chips $2.49 (if dark chocolate is included, you can use $.50/1Q 8/21 SS)
Bush's beans $.89 each
Hunt's diced tomatoes 5/$5 - $.45/3 (doubled) or $1/4Q (10/2 SS) = $.70 - $.75 each
Best Choice cocoa mix $1
Best Choice pasta $1
Banquet dinners $.89
Best Choice tuna $.79
Always Save chili beans $.59
Best choice canned veggies $.49
Pork chops $2.29/lb.

Today's Menu: Crockpot Chicken Chili

I made "Chicken in a Pot" yesterday in my Crockpot and have leftover chicken.  The chicken was from Fricks and at $.89/lb., my four-pound bird was $3.56.  We got last night's dinner, my husband's lunch, and tonight's dinner out of it, so that's not too bad!  You make Chicken in a Pot with 2 carrots, 2 onions, and 2 celery stalks, sliced into one inch pieces.  Put those on the bottom.  Put the chicken on top, season with salt and pepper, and add 1/2 cup water, white wine, or chicken broth.  Cook on low for 8-10 hours.  I recommend closer to 10 hours because the recipe is technically for a 3-pound bird.  I made gravy out of the drippings (1 Tbsp cornstarch and a little cold water) and served it with mashed potatoes (3-4 russet potatoes and I keep the skins on for extra nutrients, add 2 Tbsp butter and milk to the consistency you like).  We also ate the carrots and onions as a side dish.  Yum!  Total cost: less than $6 and we got 3 meals out of it! (or serves six people).

Today's menu is Chicken Chili in the crockpot.  You'll need:

1 lb. chicken, shredded from yesterday (or buy a rotisserie chicken for $6.99 at the grocery store, shred, and use it for 3 meals)
2 cans diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can black beans, undrained
1 can chili beans, undrained
1-2 cups chicken broth (depending how soupy you like it)
1 green pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves
1 cup frozen corn (optional - my hubby doesn't like it)
Tabasco sauce to taste

Put all of this in CrockPot and cook on low for 4-5 hours.  I have also been known to add 1 can cream of chicken soup to this recipe when I cook it on the stovetop (1 hour), but I don't know how that will go in the CrockPot.  Total cost: less than $4 and serves six.

I've been super busy this month, but will now make up for it!  First, here's a great coupon for Mott's Tots Juice from http://www.vocalpoint.com/.  You'll need to join VocalPoint to get the coupon.

Also, I'm going to start posting recipes that my family loves that are inexpensive, healthy, and ALWAYS take less than 30 minutes to make.  I'm a busy mom - I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and you don't need to either.

If you haven't printed coupons this month, you only have three more days before they issue new ones, so start printing!  Here are some of my favorites:

Walgreens - My Trip 8/28

I needed a lot of basic items this week and Walgreens sure helped me out!  I saved about 55%, which isn't the best I've ever done, but I can't complain because it was all stuff I needed now.

Here's what I bought for $42.03 in three transactions:
2 Pampers wipes (two $.50 coupons from the mail)
2 Tide duo pacs (two $1.50)
2 Downy dryer sheets ($1.50/2)
1 Bounce dryer bar ($1 from package)
(P&G deal - Buy $30, get $10RR; used P&G insert coupons)
3 Campbell's tomato soups for $.59 each after in-ad coupon (fillers for 3 RR I have from last week)

1 Pampers Cruisers diapers box ($2 P&G)
4 M&Ms (two $1/2 coupons from this week's RP insert)
1 Penway highlighter on clearance for $.29 (filler)

5  Nature Valley granola bars ($.75/2 from 7/17SS, $.85/2 (printable), $.50/1 from this week's SS insert)
2 Campbell's tomato soups (fillers)

Union Walgreen's was out of the Crest toothpaste that's 2/$5 with $3RR.  There's a $1Q in this week's P&G insert which makes them free wyb 2.
Also, our Walgreen's doesn't carry Vanilla or Lime Twist Carmex.  This would have been a $.50 money maker because they are on sale for $1.50 with $1.50 RR and there was a $.50 printable a couple of weeks ago.  Oh well.

Walgreens 8/14-8/21

I had a really good trip today at Walgreens.  They were out of Pert shampoo ($3.99 - $1Q 8/14 - $3RR = FREE), but other than that, it was a GREAT trip.  For a sweet $5 Scenario filled with lots of goodies, check out http://www.couponstl.blogspot.com/.  I am not that clever, but I didn't do too bad...here's what I bought:

2 Shredded cheese @ 2/$3 after in-ad coupon
3 Kraft mac and cheese @ $.69 after in-ad coupon
3 Chicken of the Sea tuna @ $.79 after in-ad coupon
2 Noxzema Spa Shave Razor @ BOGO (I had a raincheck) - (2) $2Q***
1 Herbal Essences shampoo @ $3 - $1Q (8/7) - $1 RR
2 Scope @ 2/$6 - (2) $.75Q (7/31 P&G) - $3RR
1 Revlon nail polish @ $3.99 - $1Q (8/14) - $2 Walgreens coupon (7/24) - $3 RR

- $8.37 left over from the gift card I got on Thursday after I signed up for the Post-Dispatch (they will give you a $10 gift card when you buy a $10.79/month subscription)

= less than $4 out of pocket after RR.  Go me!!!

***Beware of Noxzema $2 Q from packages sold last spring.  They actually ring up as the razor they came from adding $4.99 to your bill instead of subtracting $2.  Luckily, the manager at our Walgreens is SUPER NICE and let me come back for a refund after I had already gotten home and discovered the mistake. :)

Schnucks 8/15-8/21

Not much this week at Schnuck's that I'm interested in.  Check out their ad for all of their sales.

Classico pasta sauce 2/$5 - $1/2Q (5/15 SS) = $2 ea. (not bad if the alfredo is included in sale)
Angel Soft toilet paper, various sizes $5.99 - $.50Q (8/14 RP) doubled = $4.99
Dan-O-Nino yogurt 2/$4 (about $.25 less than Wal-mart, no coupon)

If you were going to buy the Zatarain's rice mix (10 for $10) anyway, check to see if you still have the 6/19 RP coupon where you save $1 on Hillshire smoked sausage (on sale for $3.49) when you buy 2 Zatarain's rice mixes.  Sausage with the Jambalaya or Red Beans & Rice mix is AWESOME.

Anyhow, I'm not sure I'm going to drive into Washington this week unless I come with something else.

Deals on kid's clothes

I went to Kohl's, JC Penney, and Target in Washington and they have some great clearance sales on summer clothes.  At garage sale prices, stock up for next year!  Also, I've been getting tons of $10 coupons from Kohl's and JC Penney in the mail recently, and there was a $10 off $20 worth of kid's clothes coupon in the Dispatch this week.  I think it expires pretty soon, though.

I scored shorts, a hoodie, and a couple of shirts at Target for $1.12 ea.

At Kohl's, I got jeans for $3.00, a sleeper for $5.00, and a couple of cute fall outfits (which are still 30% off) to use my $10 off $20 coupon.  This will stack with a $10 off $10 coupon, by the way, so free clothes for you if you have those coupons!

Schnucks 8/8-8/14

I don't have a lot of time to post, but there are some good deals this week.

General Mills is offering 50 box tops and $2 back if you buy 8 General Mills products.  I scored some really cheap Old El Paso refried beans yesterday.  They were $1.25 each and I had a $.50/1 Q from http://www.bettycrocker.com/ (which will double in our Schnucks!), so I got 2 for $.25 each.  I wish I could have printed more coupons!

Cereal, Hamburger Helper (10 for $10), and Pillsbury products are also part of this deal.  Check out the ad.

Also, be on the lookout for a tearpad mail-in-rebate in a Bounty paper towel display near the back of the store.  You can mail in a Schnucks receipt dated August 1-14th by 8/22 and receive $5 off $25 or $10 off $40 of Proctor and Gamble products in the form of a Schnucks gift card.  I thought about using this with Pampers (9.99 ea for jumbo packs), but it works out to $.20/diaper, which is higher than my $.10 rule.  Have not priced other P&G products/coupons to figure out other deals.

Shopping Success!

It's been a good week for me in terms of shopping deals!  It's not "Extreme Couponing" worthy, but it's pretty good for me, so I'm gonna brag a bit!  (My husband doesn't want to hear it anymore, haha).

2 60-ct. Band-aids (FREE with doubled .50Q!)
1 8-ct. Azteca burrito shells
2 Creamy chicken ramen (fast and easy lunch - add frozen veggies and curry powder!)

And the surprise item...very nice Scotch brand scissors for free!  They had scissors and coupons at checkout and offered up 10 scissors per customer!  So head over to Schnucks in Washington before they run out!

All of this for $13.05!

Schnucks 8/1-8/6

Great 10 for $10 sale this week!  Remember you don't have to buy 10.  Also, there are some good Catalina offers (the money-back offers printed at checkout) for items I buy often AND have coupons for!  Check out my previous post about where to find coupons for items marked (PP).  Here's what I'm interested in this week:

Bugles (6-8.5 oz.) $1 - $1/2 Q (7/10 SS) = .50 each
Yoplait Greek Yogurt $1 - $.50/2 doubled (6/26 SS, 7/31 SS, PP) = $.50 each

       WYB 8 x 3 (use 3 Q) = .56 ea.
I have gotten Yoplait yogurt for as low as .33 ea. at Schnucks after coupon.  Wait on this deal.

Print those coupons!

It's the first of the month, so go to all the coupon websites and print those coupons before they are gone!

http://www.couponnetwork.com/
http://www.bettycrocker.com/
http://www.redplum.com/
http://www.smartsource.com/
http://www.coupons.com/

You have to register for the first two, but registration is free.  You can print 2-3 times off each website by hitting your back button.  If you've printed the limit, the coupon will either disappear or say "print limit reached," so don't worry that you are doing something illegal.  They will change the print limit when they only want you to print one of each.  My favorites:

Pillsbury rolls and crescents coupons
Yoplait Greek and regular yogurt
Hamburger Helper
Nature Valley granola
Totino's Pizza rolls

Also, remember that you can use as many coupons as you want in one transaction.  For example, if you have 8 $.50/2 Greek yogurt coupons, you can buy 16 yogurts and use all the coupons.  Careful, though, because Schnucks in Washington will only double up to 15 coupons per transaction up to $.50 each.  So if you want to buy Greek yogurt on their 10 for $10 sale, you can use all 8 coupons, but then you only have 7 left in your doubling allotment.  Of course, you can always divide up into two transactions!

Sunday Coupon Preview 7-16

If you haven't found http://www.sundaycouponpreview.com/ yet, visit the site and sign up for email alerts.  It tells you all of the coupons that are supposed to be in the paper each Sunday.  HOWEVER, coupon inserts vary by region and we might not get all of these in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  Here are the ones I'm interested in:

Smart Source
Cheerios $1/2
Hamburger Helper $.75/3 (Save for Schnucks 10 for $10 sales!)
Huggies baby wipes ($.50/1)
             and diaper coupons ($1.50/1 and $3/1 60ct.+)
Kleenex $.50/3 (Save for Walgreens sales!)
Nature Valley $.75/2
Wilkinson Sword razors $2/1 (depending on the coupon restrictions, these could be a money maker! They are usually $1 in the travel section at Walmart. Stock up and donate!)
Tide $2/1
Sani-Hands $.50/1

Remember, to get the most out of your coupons and to spend the least amount of money, always purchase the smallest size item, and it's best if it's also on sale.

Also, if the coupon is $.50 or less, think about saving it for Schnucks.  Schnucks in Washington doubles up to 15 coupons per transaction up to $.50.  That way your $.50 coupons are now worth $1!

There is no Red Plum insert this week.  Remember you can also print from http://www.redplum.com/ and http://www.smartsource.com/.  Most of these coupons are compiled on http://www.couponmom.com/, but I have found that they are sometimes different, so check out all three sites!

Baby Food and more at Big Lots!

I went to Big Lots! today for baby food.  Yes, baby food.  I discovered a couple of weeks ago that they have baby food in their grocery section for $.25-$.30 each.  Their selection usually isn't great, but I usually can find something.  For example, two weeks ago, I bought ten jars of peas.  Last week it was 10 jars of green beans.  This week it was fruit.  My baby is in the "2nd" stage foods now, but the price was the same!

Other good buys at Big Lots! (available on a regular basis):
Pasta $.60 for 12 oz. box of shells, $.90-$1 for 16 oz. of other varieties
$1 for 1 lb. of white rice
Pop-Tarts 8ct. $1.50 (sometimes less, but watch for open boxes!!!)

This week only: Ritz crackers are in the "clearance" section for $.40-$1 per box.  The catch: They expire at the end of the month, but we really like Ritz, so I picked up some.

Aldi's July 10-16

This is the week for fresh fruit at Aldi!  Here's my shopping list:

Blueberries (pint) $.99
Plums, peaches, and nectarines $.19 each
Mangoes $.35 each
Strawberries (pound) $.89

And if you drink milk, it's $2.69-2.89 a gallon.

***I went to Aldi in Washington this afternoon, and they are limiting 2 pints of blueberries per customer per day.  I was very disappointed.

Fricks July 13-19 Ad

Wow!  It's a good week for meat at Fricks!  Here are the highlights from their ad and my shopping list:

Ground chuck $1.99/lb.
3 lb. frozen chicken breast (limit 2, must purchase $25 before coupons)
1 lb. Land O Frost lunchmeat 3.49 - $.55 Q (5/15 RP) = $2.94 each
7up 2-liters $.59 each
Best Choice ice cream (quart) $1.39
Best Choice wheat bread $.99
American Beauty pasta $.99
Old Orchard frozen juice concentrate 4/$5 - $1/4 Q here = $1 each
Romaine lettuce $1.29/head

Not many coupons to use this week at Fricks, but still some good deals.  Happy shopping!

About Me

I am a stay-at-home mom in Franklin County, Missouri.  I have been couponing for only a couple of months, but see a need for a blog highlighting deals for stores in Franklin County.  I will be posting about deals at Fricks, Schnucks, Walgreens, Finks (ALPS), and Aldi.  For more deals and information on the "chain stores," or how to start couponing, I recommend you visit:

http://www.couponstl.blogspot.com/ or

http://www.couponphenomenon.com/.

Mostly I will be posting my personal shopping lists for each of these stores, the coupons I plan to use, and where to find the coupon.
